Leslie Accardo, Model Schools Coordinator
LHRIC Cohort Fellow
Greetings from beautiful Dutchess County and my home in Pawling, NY, officially on the precipice of upstate New York State!
For the past 13 years I have had the pleasure of working with teachers, administrators and K-12 districts in Putnam, Westchester and Rockland Counties in a professional development capacity. I fondly (?) remember when Powerpoint classes would fill and there would be waiting lists on how to use Netscape. Boy, have times changed. Before my time with LHRIC, I studied mathematics at Rutgers University, minored in Latin and Greek, taught middle school students in a catholic school in New Jersey, worked at a software development company. For the past three years I was in the middle of a career transition to nursing/medical lab technology, but to make a long story short - this is my professional home. But I still find myself listening to pathology podcasts in my leisure time.
My colleague Sarah and I are fellows within this project as we have the opportunity to see things happening in so many different districts - and there are more similarities than differences. We will happily share our observations, knowledge, and even opinions with you as we all learn together over the next 10 months.
If anyone wants to get me off topic, I love to indulge in philosophical discussions about human nature, and am a rabid fan of House, Medium, FlashForward, and the NHL network.
